More Reef fish!!

The Phantom headed out yesterday to that same "secret spot" off Moreton. Rene and Ian had Rene's brothers Pat and Con and Nephew Andrew on board, along with Phantom regulars Col and Barb, Daniel was also on board, doing a great job on the deck. One of those magic days was had on the water and the fish played the game also.

Pat landed this snapper which won him the on board competition.

Not to be outdone Con got in on the action.

Then Pat showed him up with a kingfish.

A great day was had by all and the fresh snapper tasted great for dinner last night.

Recent Charters

Well as I sit in the office knowing that Ian and Rene are enjoying a day on the water with some family from Victoria I thought I'd fill you in on a recent charter.

We had the boys from Built on board and were after some reef fish. We departed Scarborough Harbour just after 6am and made our way to the "secret spot" - somewhere off Moreton in 130 metres of water - why make bottom fishing easy for these guys!

Luck was with us and on first drop we had some nice kingfish and snapper to show for our trouble - including a double string for Marc!

We had a number of good drops and proved the old saying the earlybird gets the word as many boats were reporting lean fishing conditions on the radio.

Once the early bite tapered off we headed back in towards Hutchies to pick up some pelagics. Unfortunately for our charterers we were flagged down by a tinnie with a flat battery and no radio. As the weather was starting to turn nasty we made the decision to tow the tinnie to more sheltered grounds and call the Coast Guard to rescue them.

Thanks to Redcliffe Volunteer Coastguard for the effort put in on the day. Their coverage on the water is always appreciated - this just illustrates how important it is to make sure your boat is in working order and you have all the essentials before heading offshore. Apologies to our crew, but we do have a responsibility to others on the water - our lunch spread of prawns, chicken, ham, salad and fresh bread went down far better in the calmer waters of Western Rocks anyway! A great day on the water was had by all and thanks guys for coming along!
